Yung mga walang tv dyan pero may internet naman, tulad ko, pwede na kayong manood ng local tv shows online. PinayChannel is offering live streaming from different TV stations from the Philippines. The current supported stations are GMA 7, ABS-CBN 2, TV 5, Net25, at Cebu Catholic TV. So far I have tried GMA and ABS, video is clear and audio is good as well. Paminsan minsan lang offline yung streaming, pero mostly pag late night na, na tipong Master Showman na lang yata ang palabas LOL. Try nyo rin and let me know in the comments your feedback.

Bakit ang mga jeepney drivers ng Pasig-Quiapo route eh hindi marunong magbilang kung ilang kilometers from origin to destination. Matagal ko na kasing problema to tuwing pumupunta ako sa Wack-wack galing ng Rotonda. Bago pa ang recent na fare hike, 10 pesos ang sinisingil sa akin ng mga driver ng Pasig-Quiapo na route. Eh dapat P9.25 lang kasi 5 kilometers lang and distance nun. Dati kasi 8 pesos lang for the first 4 kms tapos additional P1.25 for each succeeding kilometer. Pero dahil nung time na yun malapit na rin maimplement yung bagong pamasahe eh hinayaan ko na lang muna. Ngayong naimplement na yung bagong pamasahe (P8.50 for first 4kms and additional P1.50 for each succeeding km.) eh ang singil na from Rotonda to Wack-wack eh P11.50 na. Honga naman, kasi dati ang singil nila 10 pesos. Eh ang point eh dati nang mali ang singil nila sa pamasahe. Sa bagong fare rates, dapat 10 pesos lang talaga ang dapat ibayad ko kasi 5 kilometers lang naman ang distance from Rotonda to Wack-wack. Pano ko naprove na 5 kms yun? Chineck ko yung fate matrix nila. Each line dun sa fare matrix corresponds to 1 km, eh from Rotonda binilang ko kung pang-ilang line yung Wack-wack, eh pang lima sya. Tinanong ko ang driver kung magkano from Rotonda to Crossing (4 kms) eh ang sabi 10 pesos daw! Potek eh bakit ang byaheng Pasig-Crossing United ang singil eh 8.50 lang, which is siyang dapat. Ibig bang sabihin hindi marunong magbasa ng fare matrix ang mga drivers ng Pasig-Quiapo na route? Everytime na sinusundo ko si misis sa wack-wack eh lagi kong ineexplain sa driver na malalaman sa fare matrix kung ilang kilometers ang distance from origin to destination at palaging hindi naiintindihan ng mga drivers. Sarado kasi ang isip nila na kung magkano ang dating singil nila eh magpapatong lang sila ng P1.50 yun na yung bagong singil. Eh paano kung yung dating sinisingil nila eh dati na palang mali? Kawawa naman ang mga pasahero, dami ring pasahero na nagtataka bakit 10 pesos ang singil from Crossing to Rotonda pero hinahayaan na lang nila. Iniisip kong ireport ito sa LTFRB pero nagdadalawang isip ako kasi baka hindi naman aksyunan ito.

Next time na magbyahe ulet ako, ililista ko yung buong fare matrix ng Pasig-Quiapo route at ipopost ko dito. For now, itutuloy ko pa rin yung pageeducate sa mga drivers at sana matutunan nila ang tamang pagbabasa ng fare matrix.

NEDA has already approved the new fare increase which will be implemented on July 9 or July 10, 2008. More details on the news here.

Since the last fare increase (the 8-peso base rate) has implemented, LTO has stopped releasing fare matrices to jeepney drivers and many drivers are taking advantage of it by making their own fare matrix, which is usually higher than the approved rate. So be informed. Here is the latest fare matrix:

Some websites that allow rotating adsense pub-ids might ask you for a channel code. A channel code is a series of numbers used to identify an AdSense Channel you have created. Here's how to know your AdSense channel code:

Login to your Google AdSense account then go straight to Adsense Setup. Go to Products tab then click on Adsense for content.
You may select either Ad unit or Link unit. It doesn't matter anyway for both ad types may use an ad channel.
In the Choose Ad Format and Colors page, just click on Continue. Again, this doesnt matter if you're just up to getting the channel code.
Create a new channel by clicking on "Add new channel". Enter the a short text that best describes where the adsense ads will appear. If you have previously created a channel and wanted to use it, just click on the add link beside the channel name.
You'll be presented with the Adsense code. Look for the value of google_ad_channel for that is your Adsense channel code.

Duplicate Posts in GMANews.tv Feeds

Last week I subscribed to GMA News' RSS Feeds from their website gmanews.tv. However, It was so disappointing to see a lot of duplicate posts, same reason why I stopped reading feeds from inquirer.net. The screenshot above shows the same article with different titles and different landing urls. The timestamp shows that they have changed the title and republished it an hour after later. Today, I've seen around 20 duplicate articles of the 100+ feeds i've received. That's a lot of time to waste reading and scanning through the articles. Don't they have a system for reviewing articles before publishing it to the web? If they are very careful in delivering news on tv for fear of losing viewer interest, aren't they concerned of online readers as well? It's so comforting to read news right at your email or favorite rss reader. But what gmanews.tv doing to their feeds is not comfortable at all. Grrrr!

Macedonia Becomes World's First 'Wireless' Country

Working with the Government of Macedonia and the private sector, AED has helped transform Macedonia, once the least developed of the Yugoslav republics, into the world's first 'wireless country' of its size or larger.

Now a vast majority—95 percent—of the country's population has access to wireless, broadband Internet service.

Through a grant from USAID, the AED project Macedonia Connects worked with a local Internet service provider to connect every one of the country's 460 primary and secondary schools to a wireless network. Two years ago most of these schools did not even have working telephones. Now each is outfitted with a computer lab, and the students are connected to the world.

That network became the backbone for the national wireless system. Macedonia Connects also worked to extend the reach of the wireless network to rural communities scattered throughout the rugged mountainous countryside.

"Our project team had the technical vision of how the network we created for the schools could be expanded to benefit the entire country," said Dennis Foote, vice president and director of the AED Center for Applied Technology. "We were able to make it happen through support from USAID's 'Last Mile Initiative,' which Administrator Natsios created to expand the access of the rural poor to communications."

The public-private partnership involved in making this exciting advancement possible includes members from the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, the Macedonian Ministry of Education and Science, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the People's Republic of China, Microsoft, and Motorola. Microsoft provided valuable software packages and licenses to the government of Macedonia, and Motorola contributed necessary hardware.

"This infrastructure will bring in investment and create jobs", says Jani Makraduli, President of the Committee for Information Technology of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia. "The benefits to the country are mind boggling. Already, private companies are poised to take advantage of the new system."

Another result of the Macedonia Connects project was a steep reduction in the costs associated with Internet access. According to Glenn Strachan, who directed the project for AED, there is now more competition among Internet service providers in Macedonia, prices have dropped, and "the Internet is accessible to students, teachers, and the general population, rather than just the wealthiest section of society."

I was searching for this keywords: css submit button image when the page above appeared. This is the second time that I have encountered this. For sure I don't have any spyware or viruses in my linux system that's why this message is somewhat surprising. I've seen it before, but after a couple of minutes I was able to search normally. Maybe Google is testing something and soon will be blocking searches from infected PCs.

Long Weekends for 2007

2007 is peculiar. There are a number of long holiday breaks :

1. Longest Holy Week Vacation.This year's Holy Week is the longest because
Easter Monday is also a holiday because it coincides with the Bataan Day
(April 9, monday). Book your travel Vacation now during the Holy Week
Season: April 1, Palm Sunday and April Fool's Day to April 9, Easter Monday
and BataanDay. File your leave now for April 2, 3, 4!

2. Labor Day Holiday. The second long holiday is from April 28, Sunday to May 1, Tuesday Labor Day. You need to file a leave for April 30 but it will be a leave well taken. Boracay is the perfect place for this long weekend so start booking your hotel in Bora! Also, remember that May is an elections month so better take your vacation before the election on May 14, 2nd Monday of May.

3.Independence Day Long Weekend. Take advantage of June 9, Saturday to June 11, Monday (regular holiday in lieu of June 12). No need to take a vacation since this is a 3 day weekend. It starts to rain already during this time, but still a perfect time for the last minute summer getaway.

4. Ninoy Aquino Holiday. August 21, is a special holiday which falls on a tuesday this year. So you just need to take a leave on August 20, and you already have a 4 day weekend from August 18, Saturday to August 21, Tuesday. It is difficult to fly during this time since this is in the middle of
typhoon season. This is perfect time to start Surfing or White Water Rafting.

5. Halloween Vacation. Yes, another 4 day weekend without taking a leave. November 1 (Thursday) All Saints' Day is a special holiday and November 2 (Friday) is a Special non-working day (Proc No. 1211). So, take advantage of the Cebu Pacific Crazy Fares during this time from Nov. 1, Thursday to November 4, Sunday. Yahoo!

6. Eidl Feitre or End of Ramadan. This is usually in November but there is no date yet. Anybody knows when the end of Ramadan this year?

7. Christmas Season 4 day Holiday. December 24 (Monday) is declared as a Special non-working day (Proc No. 1211) and December 25 (Tuesday) Christmas Day is a regular holiday. So similar to last year, we have a 4 day Christmas holiday from December 22, Saturday to December 25, Tuesday.

8. New Year Holiday. December 29, Saturday until January 1, Tuesday is another 4 day holiday weekend. It is best that you just take leave during the entire last week of December so enjoy an almost 12 day holiday!

How To Add New Yahoo Emoticons to Gaim

I followed this guide from Daily Work in adding new emoticons to my gaim in my linux box. However, there are a couple of things that are not mentioned to get your newly-added emoticons active so here I'm trying to make it clear as much as possible. These instructions are for linux systems only, you have to find the counterparts of the directories mentioned here if you want to do this in Windows.

Locate the smileys directory. Gaim has it defaulted to /usr/share/pixmaps/gaim/smileys/default.
Download yahoo emoticons. You may use wget to download it directly to the smileys directory. Here are the yahoo emoticons pages:

Yahoo emoticons filenames are in the series 10x.gif so make sure to rename it to yahoo_<desc>.gif just for the sake of uniform filename format as with the other smileys.
Edit the theme file. You have to modify the file /usr/share/pixmaps/gaim/smileys/default/theme and enter the filenames of the emoticons you have downloaded and the character combination asssociated in each emoticon.
Activate newly-added smileys by disabling your default smiley theme and re-enabling it. You will find it at Tools > Preferences > Conversations > Smiley Themes . Select None in the smiley theme selection then click Close. Open the Preferences again then select Default Theme to re-enable it. By now, you should be seeing your new set of smileys on the smileys window. Enjoy!

Residents of an apartment compound in Pasig filed a complaint against one of their neighbors for doing "unfriendly" acts to the community, aside from being a top suspect in a cellphone theft. The residents wanted that neighbor to leave the compound and look for another apartment somewhere else. During the hearing at the barangay hall, arguments are unstoppable, walang tigil yung nanay ng complained person. "Rich kami noh! Kayang kaya naming bumili ng cellphone na mamahalin. Bakit, kayo nyo bang sumahod ng 40 thousand?!!!", the mother shouted. Then everyone in the room raised their hands. She pretended to not notice the response and talked to a barangay official while they were raising their hands. She ignored it. Pahiya.

I didn't notice any much improvements from the beta, except the capability to upload images, position the elements of your blog, and better html code generation of their wysiwyg editor. New Auction Site A Big Threat To Ebay

Auction.PH Corporation recently launched an auction website called Auction.ph and is said to be beating Ebay's Philippine auction site ebay.ph. They started of by creating a buzz with their raffle draws and contests. Auction.PH is giving away 3,000 pesos worth of e-money to 30 lucky winners to the daily draw that will run through December 2006. Aside from this, they have their Daily Lucky Combo contest wherein members have to enter a 3-digit number combination and wins when their number combinataion matched the lucky number combo for the day. Days after launching the Daily Lucky Combo, they started another game called the One Peso Auction wherein members have to guess the reserve price of the item in auction by submitting a bid. Bids in One Peso Auction are in increments of 1 peso and each member are allowed to make a maximum of 5 bids. Prizes for the One Peso Auction and Daily Lucky Combo include ipod shuffle, dvd players, mp3 players, beauty products, mobile phones and digital cameras.

Dead disk drive? What would Fonzie do?

In the '70s TV show "Happy Days," the character Fonzie was so cool
that he could make a dead jukebox play just by giving it a thump in
the right spot. If Fonzie were working on computers today, he'd
probably use some of these tricks for getting a reluctant hard drive
to come across with its data.

When a previously working disk drive suddenly won't come up at boot
time, one approach is to try freezing it. I don't know whether the
cold realigns the components or the condensation that forms when you
remove the drive from the icebox has a positive effect, but this
technique actually works. It revived a laptop drive of mine that quit
suddenly this morning.

Sometimes the problem isn't with the hardware but with a key system
component. In that case, you may be able to boot with a Linux LiveCD,
mount the drive, and copy off all your crucial files. This trick works
whether your hard drive was running Linux or Windows, as long as the
LiveCD understands the filesystem on the drive.

Of course, that assumes you have space to which you can copy the data.
Sometimes it's handy to just mount your laptop hard drive on a desktop
PC to copy the data quickly. Unfortunately, laptops and desktops use
different IDE connectors. But heeeey, that's not a killer problem.
Cables to Go makes a laptop-to-IDE hard drive adapter that lets you
hook up the notebook drive to your desktop PC. I just ordered one this
morning -- the cheapest I could find was at TechSunny.com.

Season 3 of the hit reality show The Apprentice has just started 2 weeks ago in the states. This time, Its the book-smarts vs the street-smarts. 8 with college degree and 8 with just high school diploma. As of this writing, i have seen the first 2 episodes. The first week, the street-smarts won. Second week, it was the book-smarts. This show is really exciting to watch, and at the same time educating. Mourning Day

Nope, wala namang namatay but our office looks like parang namatayan.
Lahat walang ganang magwork or magsaya man lang. We just received our
pay yesterday and yet we arent happy. Eh paano ba naman, mabawasan ka ba naman ng almost half ng salary mo ng deductions! Income tax, SSS,
Pagibig, and Philhealth. All of these were deducted from the same
payday at end of the month pa ha. Eh syempre pag end of the month, we
have to pay our bills and all tapos you'll only get half of what
you're expecting! Employees went into panic and immedfiately requested
for a meeting. Actually yung office lang namin sa legaspi ang
nagmeeting, lucky them nandoon yung accounting ng company. Eh kami
dito sa manila office kami kami lang, wala kaming matanong about this
and that. I sent a message to an accounting personnel in legaspi
office but didnt replied. Haaayyy, kakapagod na magwork if you'll know
naman na half of it will be paid for taxes. I know we should pay for
our taxes, pero kasi this is the first time na nagdeduct ng tax sa
company namin and we havent informed beforehand that they're gonna do
it so lahat kami surprised talaga. Tapos yung computation pa ng salary
naman, eh matagal na naming inaargue with our manager yun. Kasi per
hour ang computation ng salary namin kahit na monthly ang rate namin.
So ayun ang nangyari, sira ang budget namin. One of my officemates
here pays for his house at 6k a month but he only got 5k for this
payday. Eh paano pa yung budget nya for his family's food, etc. Sa
akin naman, 1k na lang natira that i can spend until the next payday.
Grabe talaga, if only i can talk to the accounting face-to-face i
would have said things that may offend or hurt her. It is really a sad
day for us here at the office. We all do our job, and we finish our
tasks as fast as we can and yet we dont feel like we are working for a
company that deserves our hardwork. ano ba direk, tama na! naiiyak na ko :)

Resignation Every Week

3 employees from the company im currently working with resigned. One on every week for the last 3 weeks. Philip, one of our software engineers, left 3 weeks ago. Mc, my long-time co-worker/roommate/friend, left last week to pursue his dream of becoming a pilot someday. This week, the only woman in our Manila office had her last work day today. Grabe, kakawalang gana na tuloy magwork dito. Ive been wanting to leave na nga rin kaya lang im thinking that when all of the employees here left at ako na lang ang matira eh they might want to sponsor me para sa LA office na lang ako magwork nyahaha. asa ka pa alvin! basta pag kumita lang ako sa networking business ko, alis na agad ako then punta ako NJ :)
